Lindsi Hruska, a teacher at St. Teresa Catholic School in Des Moines, recently emailed me to share her story about the impact that Iowa’s education savings accounts have made on her family and school:
I wanted to share how the Education Savings Account (ESA) program has made a difference for my family. Because of the ESA, my children have been able to attend the Catholic school where I teach, something that would not have been financially possible for us otherwise. Three of my children currently attend this Catholic school.
It has always been important to me that my children receive the same high-quality education I was blessed with as a child. ESA funding made that goal a reality. Our school provides a supportive and inclusive environment, with access to services such as special education, ELL, speech, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and Title I. Contrary to what some may believe, we do not turn away students who need extra support. In fact, my own children have received speech services through their IEPs here.
The ESA program has not only benefited my family personally, but it has also strengthened our school community by giving more families the opportunity to choose a faith-based education that meets their children’s individual needs. I see the impacts of financial stability personally as a teacher at a Catholic school. I am deeply grateful for the program and the positive impact it continues to have on students and families across Iowa.
I appreciate Lindsi sharing her story, if you would like to share how ESAs have impacted your family, please send me an email. I’d love to hear from you and highlight your story. Your stories make a difference!
