LEGISLATION
2011 Legislative Summary

With a tight state budget and many cuts this year, we faced an uphill battle in the legislature.  However, the General Assembly passed legislation increasing the STO tax credit cap to $8.75 million for tax year 2012 and Governor Branstad signed this legislation into law after a very long session.   As a result, the STO program will be able to serve many more families in the coming years. Thank you to our grass roots activists for contacting your legislators!

2010 Legislative Summary

The School Tuition Organization tax credit program was among those that were to be cut this legislative session.  The House of Representatives successfully amended a bill, removing the STO program from the list of cuts.  The amendment was then approved by the Senate.  As of now, the STO program will remain capped at $7.5 million in tax credits each year.  Thank you to all who took the time to voice their concerns to their legislators - you made a difference!
